Ethics committees
ULB has several ethics committees that deliver opinions and approvals on research projects:
- For a research project in the domain of healthcare, address your request to Comité d’Ethique de l'Hôpital Universitaire de Bruxelles. Attach the file Commitment personal data protection.
- For a research project including animal experiment, address your request to Comité d’Ethique - Expérimentation animale.
- For a research project involving human beings within the framework of the research activities in the Psychology Department, address your request to Comité d’avis éthique Facultaire de la Faculté des Sciences psychologiques et de l’Education, only available to the Psychology Department members; in some cases, this Committee will request an ethical opinion from Comité d’Ethique de l'Hôpital Universitaire de Bruxelles.
- For a research project within the framework of the research activities in Philosophy and Social sciences, address your request to the Comité d’éthique de la Faculté de Philosophie et Sciences sociales, only available to the members of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences: Faculty Intranet and contact email
- For a research project conducted by a member of the scientific or academic staff of the Faculty of Letters, Translation and Communication or submitted by a student whose research project (including as part of a course) is supervised by a member of the academic staff of this Faculty, address your request to the Comité d’éthique de la Faculté de Lettres, Traduction et Communication, via the Virtual University (« LTC-Éthique » under « My Courses »). If you have any problems, please contact recherche.ltc@ulb.be
- For projects not covered by the previous Committees, address your request to Comité Central d’éthique de la recherche de l’ULB.
Any researcher processing (i.e. collecting, analysing, transferring, storing or deleting) personal data for his/her research has to apply the General Regulation for Data Protection (GDPR), which requires, amongst others, the minimisation and securitisation of data. Data protection issues and the respect of the applicable legislation are also controlled by the above-mentioned Committees.
The ULB’s Data Protection Officer can be consulted for methodological advice.
