The different types of microorganisms. The three domains of life (Eukarya, Bacteria and Archaea). Historical overview of microbiology. Cell structure and organisation of prokaryotes. Microbial growth. Microbial metabolism. DNA replication. Gene expression and its regulation. Essentials of virology.

Description of the main types of microorganisms, their cell structure, metabolism and the regulation mechanisms.
