Course content
Two parts: introduction to papyrology (definition, history, methods) and chronological survey of the papyrological material (from the ptolemaic to the early arabic period, including roman and byzantine Egypt). Each set of texts is put into his cultural, literary, historic and archaological context. There are also exercises (use of the fundamental tools, both printed and online, chronological conversions, palaeography, etc.).
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
Introduce the students to papyrology (methods and main topics). Prepare them to read, to translate and to comment documentary papyri, written in Greek or in Latin, and to use them as historical sources.

To master specialized knowledges in languages, literatures and cultures, in particular to understand and master the papyrological methods.
