European Competition Policy : Theory and Cases

Combination of theoretical analysis, case studies (antitrust) and positive analysis of industrial sectors. Presentation of some recent developments in industrial organization on questions relating to entry, to predation by capacity-building or long-term contracts, to equilibria in industries subject to increasing returns or network effects, and to firm location. Application of this theoretical framework to the analysis of different questions of industrial organization and competition.

To be able to use the tools of industrial organization and competition law to analyze antitrust cases; to learn to synthesise numerous documents of diverse origins and to present this synthesis efficiently.

Case studies and presentation by students; the necessary knowledge in industrial organization and competition law is provided at the beginning of the course.

Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)

Each student must present a case and provide before the presentation (1) a one-page summary of arguments and (2) a report that cannot exceed 5 pages (excepting annexes). This work represents 80% of the final grade; 20% of the grade relates to participation during the seminar.
