Forms and dimensions of the Earth;General properties of the ellipsoïd;Definition and classification of the systems of planar representation of the ellipsoïd;General study of alterations;Tissot ellips;Some cartographic projections in more details.

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

To understand the problems linked to the representation of the Earth on a planar surface like a usual map, the deformations that result in this process and how to minimize their impact

Teaching methods and learning activities

Powerpoint presentations;Some external people mainly from the National Gepgraphic Institute will also come to talk about recent developments of cartography
