Course content
The course focuses on several periods in the literary history of English-speaking countries: realist and naturalist fiction from the late-nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century; modernist poetry and fiction from the late nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century; and postmodernist fiction.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
Helping students develop an advanced mastery of literary interpretation relying on several contemporary theories of reading and hermeneutics. Providing them with an in-depth knowledge of the issues relevant to specific periods of literary history.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Ex-cathedra lectures on the basis of computer slides presentations; compulsory reading list; research paper (BA3 students).
References, bibliography, and recommended reading
A reading list of five to six novels when the course is devoted to fiction; two or three novels and about twenty poems when the course deals with both poetry and fiction. In addition, official course notes (in the form of a PUB "syllabus") are available for this class. The reading list is made available online at the beginning of the term.
