Course content
After an introductory historical overview, this course offers a detailed analysis of significant English Canadian novels or plays from the late 20th century and early 21st century. Students will be required to read an additional Canadian novel of their choice and to prepare a chapter from The Cambridge Companion to Canadian Literature for presentation on the day of the oral exam.

This course is meant to provide students with an introduction to significant developments in contemporary Canadian literature in English (fiction and theatre)

Ability to understand works by major contemporary writers.
References, bibliography, and recommended reading
A bibliography will be handed out at the beginning of the term and will be available on the UV. The list of mandatory reading material will be posted on the UV at the beginning of the term.

Grade determined by oral exam. The final mark will comprise four parts: 1/4 for course material; 1/4 for additional reading; 1/4 for Cambridge Companion; and, 1/4 for English proficiency.
