Course content
Study of regional varieties of English and characteristics of global English. Cultural literacy: insight into the cultures of Commonwealth countries (Australia, India, Canada, South Africa) through the media and films. Notions of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and academic English. Practical work: preparation of CV and letter of application; oral presentation and discussion of thesis; paper writing (abstract of end-of-studies paper); preparation of an interview and peer-reviewing.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
Getting insight into the culture of (partly) Anglophone countries other than GB and US. Developing professional skills: CV writing, job interview preparation, oral presentation of work in progress, paper writing, professional interview of a native speaker.
