Course content
Lectures by the Coordinator (and eventually other speakers) on:
- Rationales for regulation.
- Regulation vs competition policy vs industrial and innovation policies.
- Business and its environment. Digital technologies.
- Law & Economics and business.
- Pharmaceuticals and the economics of innovation.
- Cost-Benefit Analysis.
- Regulation of Artificial Intelligence.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
This course links the principles of the economics of regulation (and competition policy) with the European regulatory environment in which businesses must operate.
An important learning objective is also that students develop the viewpoints of different stakeholders.
Teaching methods and learning activities
Lectures. Discussions with students (including mandatory readings).
Guest lecturers might be considered.
Contribution to the teaching profile
Critically assess the potential solutions to make informed decisions.
Bring together various strands of economic analyses (basic microeconomics, information economics and game theory and public economics) together with institutional knowledge.
Address problems systematically to ensure a scientific approach.
