Course content
In-depth overview of South American archaeology from the first inhabitants until Inca times. The course focuses on the best-known areas (Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru) but also covers neighbouring countries (Argentina, Chile, Venezuelma, Brazil,…). The course includes cultures, chronologies and artistic styles, but also current archaeological and anthropological research questions (social complexity, ancestral relationships, economic organization, etc.). The course constitutes a pre-requisite for the MA Seminar on HAA of South America; the BA course “Exercices in HAA: South America”(see HAAR-B-347) is a recommended complement to this course

To provide students with a basis in current knowledge about the ancient native cultures of South America and their material achievements
