Course content
The course discusses issues on ancient urbanism, but also examines the occupation of non-urban spaces such as sanctuaries, cemeteries, rural or sub-urban areas. Lectures are not limited to architectural matters but also discuss the combination of several features that may build a urban or rural landscape : monumental/architectural statuary, religious/civic architecture, roads, harbours, workshops areas, rural exploitations.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
A main focus will be laid on the urban development of Athens and its territory but other study cases will be taken into account from different areas and periods.
