Course content
The ex cathedra presentations focus on topics that are varied according to the current state of research, sessions in which invited specialists, Belgian and foreign, can participate. Targeted visits to sites and / or museums can be organized according to current research, particularly in Brussels.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
The course illustrates the specific contributions of the archeology of the European Middle Ages, in particular through the prism of material culture, but also the structuring of natural and urban spaces. It includes case studies showing the contribution of other disciplines (history, environmental sciences, etc.) to the archeology of production and techniques. Attention is drawn to data acquisition methods and their analysis for socio-economic interpretation.

Contribution to the teaching profile
The course provides a first panorama of European medieval archaeological research, which is very useful for historians, art historians and archaeologists to understand the contributions, the stakes and the multidisciplinary problem.
References, bibliography, and recommended reading
The basic bibliography is presented during the first session of the course and the thematic bibliographies are communicated according to the themes discussed.
