Course content
The content and activities proposed in the syllabus are selected according to the parameters for learning at level B1.1 as recommended by the CEFR.
Based on thematic files, comprehension and expression exercises will be proposed. The revision of grammar and vocabulary points, the structure, style and coherence of speech and its use in context are systematically covered in each session, as well as phonetic and pronunciation exercises.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
At the end of the course and based on a cultural and linguistic foundation in context, the objectives are for learners to improve their use of grammatical structures, appropriate vocabulary, phonetic mechanisms, etc., and therefore to understand and express themselves in clear, standard language in relation to familiar subjects, as well as recounting experiences, projects or ideas.
Prerequisites and Corequisites
Required and Corequired knowledge and skills
Access to the Intermediate I course (Lang-B-906), equivalent to level B1.1 as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - CEFR, is authorised if the student has passed the A2.2 level course or the level test.
Teaching methods and learning activities
Based on authentic documents (text, audio or video), the course consists of a comprehension part and a space for reflection and joint expression on the theme to be dealt with so that each individual can express themselves both in terms of content and form.
Group work is set up to encourage cohesion, self-correction and the sharing of knowledge and skills, with the aim of producing both individual and collective work.
The teacher accompanies the learners and organises the session so that the emphasis is on regular interaction between the parties, which encourages their involvement and encourages them to be active participants in their learning.
Exercises aimed at reflection, practice or repetition are to be carried out at home and regularly requested.
Contribution to the teaching profile
This is an inter-faculty course, aimed at non-French-speaking students at the university, so there is no particular teaching profile. The course is only integrated into the curriculum of courses given at ULB Langues. If successfully completed, it gives access to the Moyen 2 course, equivalent to level B1.2.
