This resolutely theoretical course offers an introduction to the main pragmatic proposals developed in the wake of the seminal contributions of Paul Grice, John Austin and John Searle.
The course also addresses the tricky issue of the semantics/pragmatics interface and touches upon the cognitive foundations of pragmatics.

Familiarising students with the main issues and proposals concerning the scientific analysis of linguistic communication.
Teaching methods and learning activities
Lectures on the basic theoretical concepts + reading some of the pragmatics literature.
Now and then,exercises intended to familiarise students with some formal tools and demanding patterns of reasoning.
