Course content

This course provides students with an introduction to the main models used to explain foreign policy decisions. Variables presented include political regimes, leadership styles, group dynamics, public opinion, bureaucratic politics, standard operating procedures, decision makers' cognition.

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

Students should leave the class with a theoretical and analytical perspective that allows them to understand the process of foreign policy decision-making. Special attention will be given to the application of theories to various historical events.

Teaching methods and learning activities

This course gives students several opportunities to engage in an active learning experience. They will be offered to participate in simulations, discuss Hollywood’s representation of foreign policy, interact on the Web-CT, ask questions to diplomats, and evaluate their peers.
