Course teacher(s)
Claudio GIGANTE (Coordinator)ECTS credits
5
Language(s) of instruction
Italian
Course content
The topic of the course varies every year: for example, the chivalric poem in the Renaissance, Goldoni's plays, the Italian historical novel, avant-garde literature, and so on. Courses are taught in Italian.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
The course aims at examining the literary works from a specific period or by a classical author within a historical framework that takes into account rhetorical and poetical issues and the socio-political context. At the end of the course, the student should have reached level C1.1 of the European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Teaching methods and learning activities
Ex-cathedra course, course taught in Italian.
Contribution to the teaching profile
Through the critical reading of a classic work of the Italian literary tradition or the study of a specific period (for ex. Romanticism or the Italian Renaissance), the course contributes to deepening knowledge linked not only to Italian language and literature, but also to European civilization. Thanks to the intertextual approach – adopted for reading narrative texts and different poetic forms – students can deepen analysis and interpretation that are also useful for the study of literature in other languages. Students will be asked to take into account the specific complexity of the literary phenomena examined (from a historical, social, ideological point of view but also, in the case of poetic works, formal, metrical, rhetorical) to prepare an original presentation.
