Course content

Translation work on set texts and assessment of translations.

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

To deepen students' knowledge of the Czech language and its literature by grasping the cultural and historical issues involved in a literary text through translation. One of the aims of this course is to develop students' critical faculties with regard to the various translation processes.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Distribution of texts, correction and evaluation of translations during seminars in which all students actively participate. Organisation of translation workshops.

Contribution to the teaching profile

The aim of this course is to provide a practical methodology for translation and to develop students' creative abilities. The aim is to offer a critical approach to translation as a complex exercise which requires contextualisation and analysis of the semantic charges of a text. The aim is also to present translation work as a dynamic exercise, the determination of which must be the result of interdisciplinary reflection.
