Course content
The first and bigger part deals with the changes in work organizations and the labour process so as to understand the different forms of flexibility adopted nowadays in industry and the tertiary sector. The second part shows how sociology of work was brought to consider – beyond the firms - skill labelling, the industrial relations, female and male activity, and, more widely the relations between occupation and private life.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
Work is providing a good viewpoint to comprehend widely contemporary society ; nevertheless, sociology of work has build an strong empirical tradition focused on the labour process. The difficulties and the fertility of this double standpoint will be enhanced through field studies and controversies.
