Assessment and therapy methods for speech disorders.
Assessment and therapy methods for swallowing disorders.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
At the end of this teaching unit, students will be able to
- Be familiar with and proficient in voice assessment tools and methods (including PRAAT software) so they can assess a person with dysphonia;
- Develop a therapy plan;
- Write an assessment report for medical professionals and the insurer;
- Be familiar with and understand tools and methods for treating voice disorders;
- Select appropriate tools and methods for treating voice disorders on the basis of evidence-based practice (EBP).
- Be familiar with and proficient in swallowing assessment tools and methods so they can assess a person with dysphagia;

Prerequisites and Corequisites
Required and Corequired knowledge and skills
At the start of this teaching unit, students must
- Be familiar with and understand the anatomy and physiology of phonation and swallowing (cf. LOGO-E3015 Anatomo-physiologie de l’audition, de la phonation et de la déglutition)
- Master concepts and methods in general phonetics (cf. PSYC-E339 Phonétique générale et éléments de phonétique clinique)
- Communicate in excellent spoken and written French (cf. LOGO-E202 Maîtrise de la langue française)
Teaching methods and learning activities
Face-to-face theory class: the instructor engages in active teaching, combining explanatory lectures, audio/video illustrations and clinical scenarios. The course slides available on Université Virtuelle do not represent all the material covered in class, so students are encouraged to take notes. The recommended readings also help students learn more about the concepts addressed in class.

Practice assignments in face-to-face classes.
