Course content

The free probation is an immersion training course in a wide sense cultural institution: the student will have to adopt the status of a person really included in the team of a cultural institution, like she was committed. Instead of being solely busy in an accurate function like in the case of supervised probation, it is in reality, as much as possible, to obtain a global vision upon the activities of the institution, in being at the disposition of the total team to achieve a maximum of field experience. The probation covers a minimum of 60 working days. It is the student’s decision on the maximum in relation with his course planning, etc. The period during the year is free, but preferably, the probation should take place before the first examination session. If not possible, the probation may take place during June-July-August. The follow-up of the free probations takes place in the second year of the Master. When the students have already worked in the field during the first year in a supervised probation, one may consider that they are capable to propose probation locations in relation with the direction they wish follow in the diversified world of culture, in terms of content like responsibilities: for example plastic arts, or stage art from one side and business management or human resources from the other side. However it remains necessary to analyze the situation of the student in order to validate the choice, through invalidate or confirm the relevance of his selection criteria, as well the capacity of the institution selected to correspond to his expectations. Form another point of view it is evident that all the students do not have a precise or successful idea of the type of free probation to perform or -if they have already a clear idea- of the precise location where they could present a demand. It is than fundamental to analyze with the student his expectations and aspirations, as well the strong points of his capacities and skills in order to secure the success of an appropriate probation in the suitable institution.

Method(s) of evaluation

Other

Typical route of a student: opening lesson, personal meeting for the choice of institution and the probation modalities, convention probation signing, e-mail contact at mid-probation for a first evaluation, personal meeting at the probation end for a verbal “debriefing” , written report to prepare for the final evaluation. This report is made of two parts: a first part retrospective that states on the carried out probation, a second prospective part presented as an exercise of simulation of hiring by the institution + proposed solutions to optimize the efficacy of the job within the structure, maybe the structure itself.

Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)

The evaluation is continuous at each step of the student progression. The following elements are taken in account: location of the selected probation, implication and integration in the team, autonomy and polyvalence in the work, driving of the tasks received , verbal and written expressions quality.
