A BA in French and Romance Languages and Literature will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of the Romance languages, their structures and their literary traditions.

Apart from the purely literary and creative side of the course, a great deal of your efforts will be channelled into gaining a command of the strictly analytical aspects of the various different branches of philology.

Results: at the end of your studies you will be able to make a perceptive analysis of texts of varying complexity.

In a number of courses students will benefit from online course notes and other documents related to various courses.

You have at your disposal :

Your future skills:

  • Handling textual aspects : writing, synthesis, analysis

  • French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese language and literature.

  • French as a first or second language.

  • Spanish/Italian as a second language.

  • Latin.

If you go on to do a Master in French and Romance Languages and Literature, you will be able to work in the following areas:

  • all professions where speaking and writing are important.

  • teaching at different levels.

If you do a Master in the same subject, but with a special focus on French as a foreign language, you could go on to teach non mother-tongue students of French or do research into the teaching of French.

If you wish to do a different Master, you could opt for a Master in linguistics.
