Course content

The objective of the course is to prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals to be able to face new challenges of precision patient-centric practice.
Basic knowledge of the interdisciplinary skills that will shape the future of medicine.
Understanding the respective roles of the different stakeholders in healthcare.
Unique opportunities to interact with experts and colleagues from a wide range of disciplines and environments.
A holistic vision of the complex processes that translate scientific advances into novel standards of care.

Subject Matter:
Interdisciplinary: public health, medicine, biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, economy, management, fundamental and clinical research, regulatory sciences

Recognition:
Certificate in Healthcare Innovation to add to the student's Master Degree.
 

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

The certificate applicants will:
  • develop negotiation and presentation skills thanks to their participation in 2 active workshops with experts from the industry
  • develop in-depth knowledge on one topic of their choice
  • develop team spirit and cooperation
  • present their paperwork in front of an interdisciplinary jury
This collaborative work will take place in groups of 3-6 participants.
Groups will be divided according to level of expertise (combination of master students, PhDs and/or postdoc or professional) and background (optimization of the group diversity according to participant registrations)

Pre-requisite: subscription to BIME-G-5505 (Interdisciplinary Program in Healthcare Innovation)

Teaching methods and learning activities

On top of following the program of the Interdisciplinary Program in Healthcare Innovation (BIME-G-5505), participants are expected to also take part in the following activities:
• 1 Friday afternoon and 1 Saturday sessions of workshops (80% attendance rate) 
• active case study preparation with their peers (groups 3-6 participants)
• 30 minutes defence before an interdisciplinary jury
This extra curriculum represents a total of 24 hours of active contact.

Tuition Fees:

Master students, PhD students, Post-Docs, Medical Doctors (MDs) in training affiliated with Belgian universities:

  • Free of charge 

Participants affiliated with universities outside of Belgium:

  • 500€ for the entire program

  • €250 per module or €1000 for the entire program

• Case study work (dissertation (/20)
• Group oral presentation (/20)
• Individual oral presentation (/20)
• Peer-review assessment (/5): Criteria to assess: Active attitude, compliance with agreements, competence to collaborate in group, writing of the case study report. Each criterium is scored from 1 to 5.
