Selectivity in organic chemistry.

Retrosynthetic analysis.

Protective groups.

Asymmetric synthesis.

Examples of multistep syntheses of natural products and drugs.

Teaching laboratories based on modern synthetic methods, purification techniques and analysis of the produdcts synthesized.

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

To understand the synthetic strategies used in organic chemistry. To develop and exploit transversal knowledge. To transpose the knowledge acquired to different case studies. To demonstrate autonomy, innovation and creativity, to identify the potential for development of a research in the field of chemistry.

Written exam and evaluation of teaching labs.

Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)

Written exam: 75%, teaching labs' report: 25%.

Attendance to all teaching labs is mandatory. Failure to attend the teaching labs will result in "Absent" as an overall grade.
