Course content
Languages are discussed in their diachronic development (and also geographically, with Greek dialects) and in their synchronic structure.
The course is based on the phenomena of phonetic change and analogy and is organized around different themes:
phonetics and phonology, graphic system
analogy
lexicon and grammar
derivation
grammaticalization
syncretism
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
The course aims to understand the principles and methods of historical Greek and Latin grammar. It is also based on the principles of general linguistics. Linguistic change is approached from different aspects: phonetics, analogy, grammaticalization. At the end of this course, the student is able to discern the phenomena that preside over the linguistic change in ancient Greek and Latin.

Required and corequired courses
Teaching methods and learning activities
Ex-cathedra classes and exercises. The course includes exercise sessions during which the students orally present the results of a research on a theme to be chosen among several proposed themes. This presentation is also accompanied by a written work.

Personal work to be presented orally during the exercise sessions and written work to be handed in at the beginning of the session.
Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)
The final grade of the teaching unit is composed of the following three grades: oral exam (50%, one grade out of 20), presentation of exercises (25%, one grade out of 10), written work (25%, one grade out of 10).
The grade for the first session is made up of the entire evaluation: oral exam + presentation + written work.
The presentation is made during the exercise sessions, on the dates fixed at the beginning of the course. If the oral presentation is not presented, a mark of 0/10 will be awarded for this part, for both the first and second sessions, without the possibility of representation.
If the presentation or written work is not submitted in the first session, or if the overall mark is less than 10/20 (or exclusion mark), the student will be required to represent the written work and the oral evaluation in the second session. The grade of the paper will then be automatically carried forward when calculating the final grade for the second session.
