Course content

This course will mainly focus on failure analysis in higher education mass teaching and associated factors, from both the student and the teaching point of view. Indeed, this theme appears to be symptomatic of other malfunctions in higher education. This focus is borne by the fact that the analysis of the nature and the factors of mass student failure will lead us all along this course to question on a broader scale educational methods in the final stage of schooling.

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

The course aims at leading students : to discover and critically discuss the most innovative educational concepts in higher education, to be able to express them in a personal way and to use them to decode new situation; to develop their own views regarding teaching and learning in higher education and to confront them with the results of related research studies; to use the course material to analyse, interpret and put into perspective current educational problems in higher education.

Other

As regards assessment, students will be asked to write and e-mail a personal paper (3 to 5 pages). The subject of this paper will be in connection with both the course and the professional file that the CAPAES candidate plans to submit to the ad hoc Commission. In connection with the candidateÕs professional practice, this problematisation work will be based either on course material, or on other data (recommended references or others). Students will be allowed to include this work in their professional file as a theoretical part.
