1: The sources of our knowledge of medieval poetic art
2: The linguistic prerequisite of poetic analysis
3: The first treatises of "second rhetoric" applied to the French
4: Development of the principles of metric and versification
5: Cases study
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
The course aims to introduce students to the features of versification of poetic texts written in medieval French, including measuring the distance between the poetic principles of medieval texts and those of modern times, more familiar to students, to get students to produce a metric analysis, purely technical but the finest possible, of poems in medieval French.
