Course content
Where Market Research meets Multilingualism research: methods in quantitative linguistics
The seminar requires students to read and discuss articles on multilingualism and to get acquainted with methods in quantitative linguistics.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
- learn how to use an online survey to conduct quantitative linguistic research
- be introduced to tools which can be used to collect and analyse survey data (R, LimeSurvey)
- write a research paper and deliver an oral presentation presenting your findings.

Contribution to the teaching profile
This course makes the following contributions:
1. Training students to think critically (by insisting on preciselfy defined concepts and rigorous analyses)

Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)
The final grade for the course will be determined by the following components
- Final paper (50%)
- Survey (15%)
- R-script (15%)
- Oral presentation (20%)
Students must get at least 10/20 on the paper in order to be allowed to give their oral presentation.
Students who didn't obtain the credits for the course in June will have to redo in August all the parts of the evaluation for which they got less than 10.
