Course content

Monastic reforms and medieval society in Lorraine. (Xe - XIe Century)Case study: Richard of Saint-Vanne and the abbey of Saint-Vanne in Verdun; Abbey of Gorze.

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

Learning to address a research issue in medieval history by using efficiently the information search tools and methods and by being able to synthesize the achievements in an essay.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The course involves in an interactive way senior researchers, PhD students and students in the study of an original research topic, using the technique of the seminar. The course now incorporates the lessons of encyclopedia of the Middle Ages (knowledge and mastery of the use of documentation tools in History) and reading of sources in Latin. These skills are supported regularly through exercises and guidance.
