Course content
An introduction discusses main theories on ancient economy, and especially the arguments between the so-called « modernist » and « primitivist » historians. Lectures will further study the internal market of the Greek cities between the 6th and the 1st centuries B.C. along with the wider distribution and exchanges of goods through the Mediterranean world. According to the academic year, a special focus will be given to the economy of the city.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
To get experienced students with the theories and readings on ancient economy and society with a special interest on the possible influences of modern theories in economy upon the studies of ancient economy. To discuss the development and main features of ancient economy.
