Course content

The following topics are especially expanded: systems of production; industrial revolutions; modes of production and consumption; history of globalization; social policies; financial and monetary structures; crises and recoveries (States and economy); historical perspectives on organizational patterns; emergence of the knowledge society. Running parallel to this, students are asked to read a book (differs each year).

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

The course intends to give a general overview of the contemporary social and economic history. The focus is on European societies in the 19th and 20th centuries, taking into account their specific dynamics with the economic development of the world at large.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Teaching is ex-cathedra. Explanation exercises are organized for the analysis and interpretation of the book (participation is not compulsory).
