Course content

The content and activities proposed in the syllabus are selected according to the parameters for learning at level C1 as recommended by the CEFR.

Based on thematic files, comprehension and expression exercises will be proposed. The revision of grammar and vocabulary points, the structure, style and coherence of speech and its use in context are systematically covered in each session, as well as phonetic and pronunciation exercises.

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

At the end of this course, the objectives are for learners to refine their comprehension skills in different contexts, whether written documents, videos, audio recordings or conversations; and still using a cultural and linguistic base in context, the objectives relating to oral and written expression are to improve the use of the tools at their disposal, such as grammatical structures, appropriate vocabulary, phonetic mechanisms, etc., so as to be able to offer a more nuanced and precise discourse while gaining in spontaneity and fluency.

Prerequisites and Corequisites

Required and Corequired knowledge and skills

Access authorised to the C1 level course if the student has passed the B2.2 or Advanced 2 level course or the level test.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Based on authentic documents (text, audio or video), the course consists of a comprehension part and a space for reflection and joint expression on the theme to be dealt with so that each individual can express themselves both in terms of content and form.

Group work is set up to encourage cohesion, self-correction and the sharing of knowledge and skills, with the aim of producing both individual and collective work.

The teacher accompanies the learners and organises the session so that the emphasis is on regular interaction between the parties, which encourages their involvement and encourages them to be active participants in their learning.

Exercises aimed at reflection, practice or repetition are to be carried out at home and regularly requested.

Contribution to the teaching profile

This is an interfaculty course, aimed at non-French-speaking students at the university, so there is no particular teaching profile. The course is only integrated into the curriculum of the courses given at ULB Langues.

References, bibliography, and recommended reading
