Course content

The topics alternates between Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque eras, from the study of the most important works of history of music.

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

Objectives:

  • to introduce the student with some of the most representative works of the history of music, from the Middle Ages to the end of the Baroque era.

- to introduce student to the methodological tools and to initiate him to the methodology of the research in Musicology.

  • to develop critical thoughts and introduce student to the writing in musicology

At the end of the course, the student must :

  • know the principal musical genres of the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque era, through the analyse of some masterworks.

  • be able to analyse an early music work

  • be introduced to musicological research from the point of view of the tools as well as from the method (including the transmission of its results).
