Course content

Secondary metabolism, structure and general properties of major classes of primary and secondary metabolites, production of medicinal plants and biologically active secondary metabolites, standardization, testing and regulations applied to medicinal plants and extracts, major natural products classified according to their biological activities and / or their pharmaceutical interest.

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

At the end of this course, students will be able to understand the phytochemistry and pharmacology of raw materials of plant and animal origin and active ingredients derived therefrom. It will be able to recognize the main herbal drugs macroscopically and using the microscope. It will be capable of performing analysis of plant materials according to the European Pharmacopoeia.
