Course content
Description of the various bodies populating the universe, and of the way it is structured: planet-satellites, planetary systems, galaxies, galaxy clusters, large-scale structure. Solar system: planetary theories and physical description. Exoplanets and possible extraterrestrial life. Stars: structure, evolution, formation, death. The interstellar medium. Galaxies: spiral structure, active galaxies. Basics of cosmology
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
To provide a general knowledge about astronomy to students for whom it will be the only contact with that discipline. To illustrate links between astronomy and other disciplines (biology, geology, chemistry). The level is basically descriptive.
