Phonetics as a discipline; phonetics versus phonology; breathing and airstream initiation; voicing and voice quality; places of articulation of consonants; modes of articulation of consonants; classification of vowels; sinusoids and spectral analysis; formants; spectrograms; examples of spectra of speech sounds; acoustic properties of vowels; acoustic properties of consonants; elements of coarticulation and timing.
