Course content

Theoretical course Aging. Normal aging: Introduction to theories of cognitive aging - Illustration of age-related changes in different cognitive and neurophysiological domains (memory, language, attention, sleep-wake rhythms) - Cognitive interventions in normal aging. Pathological aging: Classification and neuropsychological characteristics of dementia syndromes - cognitive deficits, early diagnosis and intervention strategies in Alzheimer's disease - typical and atypical parkinsonian syndromes - classification and semiology of dementia. Introduction to the principles of care for demented patients

Practicals in Clinical Neuropsychology (TP) Developing awareness to the peculiarities of the clinical relationship between neuropsychologist and patients (interactive seminar) - Case studies - Training to neuropsychological assessment - Practice of neuropsychological testing

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

This two-part course (lecture and practical work) aims to (a) develop students' knowledge of age-related neuropsychological and cognitive changes in the context of normal aging and aging-related pathologies, and b) to introduce students to the neuropsychological assessment in all its aspects (interview, testing, interpretation) in view of their first clinical neuropsychology internship.

Theoretical course Aging. Lectures (24 h) and personal work

Practicals in Clinical Neuropsychology (TP 24h) Practical work with mandatory participation and field work (hybrid teaching), and personal work

Contribution to the teaching profile

- Collect, analyze and synthesize the information necessary for neuropsychological assessment- Define and implement a neuropsychological intervention- Use and design scientifically reliable tools to respond to encountered professional situations- Identify and take into account aspects of personal involvement and subjectivity in professional situations- Maintain an ethical reflection and act in accordance with professional ethics in professional situations

Theoretical course Aging. Oral examination

Practicals in Clinical Neuropsychology (TP 36h) Participation to the prracticals, field work and written examination

Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)

It is essential to obtain a note above 10/20 for both components of PSYC-E4025 to be awarded a pass mark Therefore, there will be no average between a failure score (<10/20) on one component and a pass mark (> 10/20) on the other part of this course. If you fail one of the two components, a non-convertible failure score will automatically be awarded for the full course, and you will have to resume the course the following year. However, you will be exempted from repeating the successful component, and we will postpone for you the partial score obtained. If you have a grade of> 10/20 for the lecture AND for practical work, then an arithmetic mean will be calculated between these two marks.
