Course content
In order to achieve this, the course will focus on the analysis of cultural facts in both their universality and diversity. It insists more specifically on the social organization (kingship, marriage, family, influences of ages and sex, etc.). Beyond exotic customs, one will catch a glimpse of the deep-rooted mechanisms of our own society.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
The goal of anthropology is to make “the stranger less strange”, thanks to a better understanding of the cultural universe that is different from ours. In a world that offers so many occasions to meet people of different origins, it is important that we go beyond our ethnocentrism in order to understand before passing judgment.
