History of the evolution of Man: origins, evolution, study and interpretation of human remains. Unity and diversity of human populations: genetic mechanisms at the basis of the evolution's process and variability of mankind. Interactions between the genotype and the environment. Reflections on the artificial concept of "human races", on scientific progress and its consequences, and on bioethics.

To learn about human biological diversity in space and time. To provide fundamental scientific notions needed in order to master the critical analysis of various fields of science in which biological and social aspects are complementary.

Contribution to the teaching profile

To possess basic skills in biological sciences ans more especially in genetics and biological anthropology.

To be able to conduct an in-depth critical reflexion on the impact of biology in the society.
