Course content
To meet this goal, the course will proceed in two steps. First it will propose a genealogy of anthropological thought since the Renaissance. It will then focus on the different contexts in which anthropology as a discipline has developed in the 20th century.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
The aim of the course is to study the historical conditions that allowed the emergence of the anthropological discourse. At the end of the course students will be able to draw the genealogy of anthropology's fundamental ideas, to replace them in their context of apparition, and to reflect upon their limits. They will accordingly be in a position to adopt a more historical and reflexive point of view on the questions and practices of 'modern' anthropology.
