Course content
This course is organized into three modules: general presentation of the anthropology of development, neoliberal development as seen from below, moral economy of corruption.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
At the end of this course, students will be able to mobilize theoretical and methodological tools inherited from development anthropology. Module I is devoted to general considerations on the subject of development anthropology and its main theoretical perspectives. Module II deals with a contemporary form of development cooperation, neoliberal development. It looks at how this is perceived and experienced by the populations it targets. Module III deals with an important theme in development aid: corruption. Corruption is considered from the point of view of its moral economy, an approach well studied in development anthropology.
Teaching methods and learning activities
The teaching method is lecture-based. It includes ex cathedra presentations, case studies, extracts from emblematic texts, obligatory readings, conferences and the use of documentary films.
Contribution to the teaching profile
This course is aimed primarily at students of socio-anthropology and development cooperation, but can also be taken by any student, particularly in the Faculty of Science, interested in learning about the contributions of development anthropology.
