Course content
Linear transformations and linear combinations of variables. Correlation, regression, ANOVAs and T-tests. Sampling distributions. Comparisons between two and more than two means (linear contrasts). Hypothesis tests for correlation and regression coefficients, comparison between two variances, hypothesis. Goodness of fit and independence tests. Measurements of the strength or the amplitude of the effects.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
The aim of the theoretical part of the course is to provide an in depth analysis of the principles of statistical inference through model comparison approach. Correlation, regression, ANOVAs (and t-tests). The necessity to evaluate the strength or the amplitude of the effects in addition to their statistical significance is stressed. The practical work takes place in small groups in a computer room. Students are initiated to the use of SPSS and Excel to deal with the major techniques of descriptive and inferential data analysis covered in the first and second part of the course.

Evaluation
Method(s) of evaluation
- Other
Other
Theory : written examination. Practice : writen examination implying the use of SPSS and Excel.
Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)
Unweighted mean between both theory and practice results. Any result below 8/20 implies an exclusion grade (6/20).
