Course content

General presentation of information systems, their ins and outs, from technical and societal points of view. The course covers the global functioning of a computer, data encoding, the history and functioning of the Web, a presentation of the main data models and an introduction to massive data and machine learning methods.

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

To provide the methodological and practical knowledge, supported by exercises and demonstrations, needed to understand and manage an information system.

To provide the conceptual basis for the writing of a scientific article in which a personal critique is formulated concerning the adoption of a technology, a standard or an application related to the course.

Oral examination

The student must prepare a scientific article on a theme related to the course, written in LaTeX, and upload it to github.

The oral exam is based on questions selected at random from a list of questions made available to students during the term.

With regard to the use of generative artificial intelligence tools, the terms and conditions of this course follow those set out for dissertations and TPMs in the Master "dissertation guide".

Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)

The oral exam and the written paper each count for half the grade (50%+50%).
