Course content
The course will address the theoretical and practical aspects of the archival profession: the principles and models that underpin the discipline, the legal and ethical aspects of the profession, the tools and working methods for each of the stages of archive management (production and acquisition, management, preservation or sorting and disposal, classification, description and indexing, enhancement). In doing so, it will attempt to shed light on the contemporary challenges in the treatment of archives through concrete examples and cases, particularly with regard to issues of access to documents and the digital environment.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
The aim of the course is to provide the student with the theoretical basis and the necessary tools to manage and valorise archives on a daily basis, and to set up or adapt an archive management programme, either downstream (historical archives) or upstream (records management).

Theoretical course illustrated by case studies and, where possible, field visits.
