International Welcome Desk

The ULB International Welcome Desk informs international students, members of academic staff recruited abroad, international visiting professor or researcher, and international postdoc or PhD candidate about the administrative steps to be undertaken prior to arrival at the ULB and the various formalities to be completed once in Belgium.

On arrival in Belgium, you are warmly invited to pick up a welcome pack from our office at 52 avenue Jeanne (Solbosch campus). We welcome you Tuesday to Thursday from 10am to 4pm.

Please note that the International Welcome Desk can help you with questions relating to visas and residence permits. However, we are not in a position to speed up the application process with the Immigration Office or the town halls.

How to register a visiting researcher

Single permit for non-UE nationals

As of March 1, 2023, all foreign researchers, post-doctoral fellows and trainees (except doctoral students) from outside the European Union will need a single permit to enter and stay in Belgium for more than three months. Hosting agreements previously issued are no longer accepted as a document for obtaining a visa.

Khaled al-Asaad Solidarity Fund

The Université libre de Bruxelles has created a Solidarity Fund in order to provide support for researchers who no longer have the freedom to pursue their research in their home country, where they are threatened due to the content of their scientific work or to the opinions they have freely expressed.

You will find all the practical information to apply here.

Do you have any suggestions?
