1. Introduction to limnology, 2. The abiotic frame in lentic systems (emphasis on lakes), 3. The abiotic frame in lotic systems (rivers as natural ecosystems), 4. Biotics: phytoplankton, zooplankton, bacteria in the water column, macrophytes, zoobenthos, sediment microorganisms, fish and other vertebrates 5. Food web interactions: the microbial loop, cascading trophic interactions, short term autogenic successions, niche shifts, 6. Applied limnology: monitoring the ecological quality of water bodies, restoration, biomanipulation

Objectifs (et/ou acquis d'apprentissages spécifiques)

To describe the continental aquatic ecosystems and to explain how they function. To introduce the concepts of food web interactions and cascading. To emphasize the anthropogenic impacts on aquatic ecosystems and their assessment.
