Objectifs (et/ou acquis d'apprentissages spécifiques)
This course aims at developing an analysis of EU's and Russia's external policies towards shrde Neighborhood. Students will have to read compulsory articles each week on a topic, in order to go in depth into the rationale of these policies. They will be able to compare both and to scrutinize which values and which tools are mobilised. Several angles will be tackled: the role of perception in identity building and in foreign policy building; tools of external policy; leverages; the specificity of the Russian external policy towards its "Near abroad".
Méthodes d'enseignement et activités d'apprentissages
Students will have to read articles and to prepare each session. The course will be as interactive as possible.
Contribution au profil d'enseignement
The course is being taught in ENGLISH.
The first aim of the course is to provide students with a general overview of the evolution of States and societies in post soviet space and the way EU and Russia build their foreign policy towards this shared neighborhood.
We will pay attention to the crisis in Ukraine as an emblematic case of this competition of models. The protests in Belarus will also be scrutinized.
