Contenu du cours

Definition of the characteristics of the chemical and metallurgical industries: analysis of energy consumption and of energy sources in these industries; specific risks associated to them

Description of a few industrial processes illustrating different thermodynamic and kinetic concepts :

  • Metal production

  • production of acids and bases (sodium hydroxyde, hydrogen sulfate)

  • Electrification and decarbonization of key chemicals (ammonia, benzene, ethylene etc)

  • prevention of corrosion
Introduction to life cycle analysis.

This course contributes to the Energy and Circular Economy pedagogical pathways of the Sustainable Development initiative that seek to provide an integrated training in sustainability.
