Enterprise Governance of IT: Obtain an expert knowledge in managing Information Technology.
Students graduating the Master in Computer Science are becoming high profile advisors for their future employers. They are regularly relied upon to assist senior management in decisions related to Information Technology (IT).
IT enables many strategic decisions, successful deployments, and innovative products. It also induces many risks related to important investments, infrastructure deficiency and external context.
ULB was one of the first world universities to create an IT Governance related education (postgraduate in 2005). Bringing this education to the Master program highlights its importance to future graduates.
Méthodes d'enseignement et activités d'apprentissages
In this module, students are guided through various domains of knowledge to allow them implement and guide in the enterprise governance of IT. The following topics are studied in this optional module:

Alignment of Business and IT through a strategic planning process and Enterprise Architecture methods

Management of IT resources that consumes an important share of the total enterprise budget (up to 25% in financial and services sectors)

Generation of value from varied investments in infrastructure, strategic, informational and transactional projects. Portfolio management, investment categorization and business case development.

Inventory and management of risks induced by the IT activity, implementation of mitigation and the reduction of identified vulnerabilities through optimal investment. Managing the risks of outsourcing, of mega projects, and of technology related decisions.

Implementation of performance measurement and the use of Balanced Scorecards cascading from Business Goals and objectives to IT goals, objectives and activities.
Contribution au profil d'enseignement

Practical tools and techniques are made available to students (and tons on downloadable documents) giving access to most recognized frameworks. Most of those are used on a worldwide basis by successful enterprises and many of those are developed with the involvement of researchers from Solvay Brussels School.
