This course offers an overview of what is involved in setting up, executing and completing a master thesis project. The sessions are intended for all Master 1 students. For students these information sessions are an important first step in starting their thesis project. The sessions will address important question such as: How and when do I choose a thesis topic? When do I contact a thesis supervisor? What research methods and thesis formats exist, and what are the main differences? How do I write and defend a good thesis?
The course cover the following topics:
- Introduction (C. Toma)
- Research methods (P. Celik)
- Thesis formats (E. Cantillon, P. Verdin, P.Verwimp, O. Witmeur)
- Approaching your thesis from a sustainability perspective (M. van de Maele)
- The Triaxes Project (O. Witmeur)
- Writing skills (H. Pirotte)
- Oral and presentation skills (S. Rothenberger)

The mark for the master's thesis counts towards the overall mark.
There is no separate oral/written mark.
The weighting is therefore 100% for the thesis and the oral presentation.
